We stayed last night at a funny little caravan park in a town called Bendemeer.
It is on the banks of the MacDonald River which flows into the Namoi which is currently threatening to flood Gunnedah yet again.
Bendemeer had only 19 millimetres of rain in then last six months but last Sunday night they had 100 mm. The river rose dramatically, lapping at the lower boundary of the caravan park and putting the bridge under a couple of metres of water. This photo shows the original high-level bridge on the left, no longer in use presumably because it is not maintained, and the new bridge on the right which is very robust but too low to avoid flooding. Such is progress in our economically rational times.
