photo of the Nyngan Caravan Park

The caravan park in Nyngan was on the banks of the Bogan River which has been in flood twice in the past month. While the manager seemed quite sure that we would not be at risk from the water, I came upon this sight as I walked around the park this morning. The river is in the distance behind the trees, the water in the foreground is where the canavan park ususlly has caravans and tents. Another half a metre (couple of feet) and we'd have been walking around ankle deep in the Bogan River. Clearly, if you live with a river which floods frequently, you don't get your knickers in a knot unless things are really bad.

As we drove along the Barrier Highway to Cobar, Jean spotted her first original kangaroo sightings, Eastern Greys both of them. We were beginning to think that the "kangaroos for the next 50km" signs were tourist lures rather than genuine warnings to motorists.

The land is just overflowing with growth. Everywhere you look there is green, lush vegetation. I can't imaging what it is usually like with little or no rain but I guess we'll come through this way again sometime and I'll find out.
