Sat 3rd

The drive from Broken Hill to Wentworth takes one through several different kinds of country.

The first 100 km (60 miles) is arid, red-soil, saltbush plain. Then suddenly you are driving through mallee and then open woodland with dark soil. There is a series of occasional lakes here which cause the change to the environment.

Later one passes river red gums which line the Anabranch of the Darling River. This is a secondary route for the Darling which splits off from the main course of the river just below Menindee and rejoins just above Wentworth.

Finally there is evidence of irrigation as one approaches Wentworth which lies at the confluence of the Darling and the Murray.
