We thought it might be nice to see the upper Hunter valley while we are so close.
The first impression as we headed out along the Jerry Plains Road towards Denman was of gross mistreatment of the environment by the coal miners. There is a gigantic open cut mine beside the road which not only shows a great scar on the landscape where mining is going on but also leaves very visible signs of past mining in the so-called remediated areas. I suppose our energy has to come from somewhere but I can't help thinking that we still undervalue our environment because it does not have an entry in the assets column of the nations balance sheet.
We passed the mining area and came into the real upper Hunter. This is delightful countryside, the more so after the scenes of depredation we had so recently seen.
Sandy Hollow is a quaint little place and the caravan park is nestled into the bushland on the hillside, very peaceful and beautiful.
