With the weather on the coast being anything but clement, we decided to head up the Tweed River valley through Murwillumbah.
The Mount Warning National Park is just off the road and we dived into the rainforest and up the hill. All the creeks were running over the causeways but not enough to cause us any concern though some in cars were being wary.
The rainforest is quite beautiful with the occasional glimpse of a waterfall across the valley.
The drive through Nimbin to Lismore is through the most pleasant countryside. Its not hard to see why people chose here to drop out of the ratrace.
Lismore is less than Winnebago friendly so we didn't stop in the town.
The caravan park is on the bank of a lake which is signposted as dangerous due to high amounts of blue-green algae. Apparently, the used to race formula 2 boats on the lake so the council has a plan to drain the lake, dredge it, fit an aerator and refill it. It's not a big job but it's amazing what people will do to protect their sport when they won't do anything to protect their environment.
