We drove north again to take a trip on the Daintree River Train. This is a series of narrow barges with seats down either side to provide everyone with the best view, a roof to provide protection from the sun, propelled by several small outboard motors to cause minimum disturbance to the wild life.

The driver had been out earlier and had gone upstream without seeing any crocodiles at all so we headed down stream.

There were few birds but we saw several Great Egrets and some beautiful Collared Kingfishers.

Clearly crocodiles are what every tourist want to see. We did see several, some 3 metres long and several babies less than a metre.

The only ones one is likely to see are sunbathing on the shore and they are all pretty motionless. The most exciting thing was a turn of the head from a baby.

After the boat trip we had morning tea (at one o'clock) and a guided boardwalk in the rainforest.

The trip was very pleasant and, I suppose, proved that there are many estuarine crocodiles in these waters.

Needing somewhere to stop overnight, we headed for Cairns 80 km away. The caravan parks were . . . .full. We knew of a rest area 20 km further on at Gordonvale so we stopped there overnight.
