It had been very cold (doonah cold) overnight, so we elected to leave the tableland and go back to the coast.

On the way we visited the Gentle Annie Lookout above Millaa Millaa. The view is stunning with a 180 degree panorama from Milanda in the north-west to Innisfail and the sea in the south-east. In the foreground is a beautiful green valley which supports the local dairy industry. Behind is a ring of hills which are mostly volcanic with tower and shield volcanoes and cinder cones spread all around, silent witnesses to a much more dramatic past.

photo of Millaa Millaa Falls We did the tourist thing and visited the three waterfalls on the Millaa Millaa loop. Millaa Millaa falls are very pretty with a well developed picnic area beside a swimming hole with a lovely curtain waterfall of perhaps 20 metres (60 ft) drop all set in rainforest.

Zillie Falls is probably more imprerssive if only one could get down to see it, The only view is from a lookout level with the top of the falls.

Ellinjaa Falls requires a short walk down a steep track but the effort is well worthwhile as the falls are quite beautiful with the river leaping out of the forest and tumbling down a series of rocks into a placid pool at the bottom, with the sun glinting on the water all the way down.

The road down the mountain is one of the easiest with a good road surface, few steep grades and no sharp bends.

Half way down the is a lookout at the roadside. This has been made by cutting a narrow swathe out of the forest to provide a view down several hundred metres to the North Johnstone River below.

We shopped in Innisfail and spent the night in the local Main Roads camping rest area after checking out the local caravan parks without finding any that were any good.
