Onwards to the south.
We looked at Proserpine but found nothing to suggest we should stop.
Airlie Beach and Shute Harbour seemed to warrant a visit so we took the detour.
Airlie Beach is much like any other overdeveloped resort with too much selling and not enough of anything else.
Shute Harbour is very pretty but, unless you are getting on a boat bound for somewhere else, there's nothing to do and nowhere to park. We took tea at the lookout and admired the view.
It didn't seem appropriate to stop in such a place so we headed on south to the next place on the recommended list.
Whitsunday Tourist Park is run by and for motorhomers though caravans are welcome.
The rates are very reasonable ($8 per night with power, $6 per night without). This should be seen in relation to the average for caravan parks ($14 and $12 per night). Either these people are subsidising the travelling public (I think not), or they achieve occupancy rates which make a profit from cheap prices (I seem to remember something in my Economics education about elasticity of markets) or the others are making super-profits.
Whatever, this is a friendly place both economically and socially and we stayed five days!
