We elected to head north for Molong, Orange and Bathurst.
We stopped in Cudal for lunch and wondered how towns like this survive.
On to Orange only to find that the Australian National Field Days are on today and for two more days. This has filled up the caravan parks so we had to make do with a pretty rough site amongst the noisy permanents in the second best caravan park of the two in town. It is still necessary to find a powered site as the nights here are as cold as charity even this late in the year.
We do, however, overlook the hockey field and it seems they will play tonight so we may get some free entertainment.
We went into town to shop and collect email.
The Library could only let us use a terminal, not a fax or data line.
They suggested a group called Octech who turned out to be an employment business with an Internet Cafe which we could pay $5.50 /hr to use but they didn't have an outgoing line we could use.
We tried the Optus dealer and at least he was apologetic but only had one line which he used for everything.
On the Dick Smiths where the sales assistant went off to consult the oracle but came back empty handed.
We were beginning to think that we would have to wait until another day when we spied a shopfront sign "TECHNOLOGY" down a side street. Desperation being the mother of all sorts of things, we went to this shop which turned out to be Pure Logic, a PC sales company. They were happy to lend me a copper pair and some bench space and to let me use some of their electricity so, Bob's your uncle, the mail got sent and received and the website got updated.
The weather being on the chilly side, we decided to wait it out in the comfort of a powered caravan park site.
Still cold, wet, windy and miserable.
More of the same.
