Brisbane Sunshine Wanderers Chapter Meeting

Thursday 3rd

We arrived at Nambour Showground to take part in the chapter meeting at about 1.30 pm to find several motorhomes already in attendance.

As more people connected to the power box we were plugged into we suddenly lost all power. Investigation revealed that one of the motorhomes was causing the main circuit breaker to trip. He had recently had his vehicle rewired and had had trouble when plugging into his house power. The installer said it was because the house circuit was only 10 Amps. This was, of course, not true.

I had a dig around and eventually proved that the lighting circuit in the van was faulty, probably a live-to-earth fault, so I disconnected it and advised the owner to go back to the installer to get the fault fixed. At least they could cook and they had desk lamps to provide some lighting.

We met up with several nice people who remembered us from earlier chapter meetings and rallies which was nice. Happy hour was . . . . happy.

Friday 4th

Some bright berk woke us up a bit after sparrow-fart with a very, very bad "Reveille" on a cornet. Not at all appreciated by those of us who try to keep civilised hours.

We spent the day chatting with friends new and old.

After dinner, we played a trivia competition. The room was so noisy that I had to take over the questions. Jean played by herself but still beat all but three couples. Highway Wanderers took away a swag of points in the inter Chapter competition.

Saturday 5th

No cornet this morning but the power kept tripping out so I had to get up in the rain to find and isolate the offending campervan.

I have been having trouble with the password on the Highway Wanderers NAC e-mail account so I asked Phillip to have the sysadmin reset it. This morning he told me that he logged into the account with the password that he had initially set up when he opened the account in November and that there was mail there from January. Clearly I had lost the plot somewhere I must be getting old. Well perhaps I just didn't take it seriously enough.

Phillip had been having trouble with his new web site. He set it up to advertise the motorhome which is for sale. He was getting different renderings of the site depending on which computer he used. J took him through the various browser settings with a little tutorial on the nature of HTML.

We had games in the afternoon. The theme was, of course, the Olympics. Very slow but with hilarious interludes.

Somebody remarked to Jean that they thought that they recognised us from a chapter meeting at Darlington Park but they were not sure because the fellow then was a quiet type.

We had hoped to find a safari to Alice Springs but none were to be found. We met a couple who had recently joined the CMCA and were looking for a chapter to join. It transpired that they are really nomads and were being encouraged to join the Highway Wanderers. They are heading to the Alice by much the same route as we planned to use, so we said we'd catch up with them. He was most grateful as his wife is still nervous of travelling unaccompanied.

Altogether a good couple of days.
