We set out for Alice Springs.
The trip back to the bitumen was no easier than it had been on the way in. we were driving along at 20 kph when a small motorhome drew up alongside, slowed to our speed, opened the window and asked if we were in trouble.
The virtue of our slow progress was that we saw everything along the way.
At one point, a small mob of Red Kangaroos close to the road were disturbed and moved off into the bush. This was our first sighting of Red Kangaroo and, therefore, quite exciting for us.
A little later we stopped to let a Perentie cross the road ahead of us. It wasn't a big one but it was another first for us.
Crossing a dry creek bed we watched a beautiful Dingo pup stop to inspect us and then walk off into the bush presumably to tell mum that there was this great big white vehicle on the road.
We joined the bitumen and headed back to town. On the way we revisited Emily Gap because we had discovered that there are outstanding cave paintings there which we had missed previously
.
We returned to the Alice Springs and booked into a caravan park for a few days.
