We carried on top the south getting to Dubbo at about 1 o'clock. we stopped in the main street to buy the newspapers and were loudly hailed by the Clark family, motorhomers we had first met at Townsville, who were camping by the river on their way to Griffith.

We chatted and Doug mentioned a couple of the good camping areas nearby. As I'm working with Philip on a database of all camping areas, we decided to visit them, check out the facilities, and record the GPS coordinates for future reference.

We decided to stay overnight at the one nearest to Dubbo which had no name but which is on a bend in the river called Devils Elbow. It is a very large area of mown grass with lots of trees and no other facilities, just right for us. There is apparently a down side to this place, the dirt road which circles the area is the favourite haunt of young hoons testing their driving skills. Fortunately we had none visit this night.

This place is home to an immense flock of sulphur-crested Cockatoos. If one were susceptible to irritation by loud birds, it would be impossible to stay here.
