In the morning, we found everyone preparing to leave so we decided not to stay.

We stopped at the Whim Creek Pub for morning tea. All the others also stopped as this is a local attraction. The pub is in the middle of nowhere and doesn't have many other outstanding features apart from the resident python which we didn't see and the fact that it was pretty well destroyed a few years ago by a record breaking cyclone which blew for 22 hours (as opposed to the usual 6 or eight) and reached 290 km/hr (180 mph). The residents and staff survived by retreating to the cyclone shelter, a shipping container chained to the ground and weighted down with rocks. The owners simple rebuilt the pub and opened up again for business.

Its a pretty popular stop for travellers on this road. While we were there two mini busses full of lawn bowlers stopped for food and drinks and I counted eight caravans and motorhomes in the carpark.

As we were about to leave, some friends we had met in Kakadu turned up so we chatted a while with them before heading off.

We stopped for lunch at the Sherlock River Rest Area. This is a very pretty place if a little small.

I had planned to spend the night in the caravan park at Roebourne but we went twice round the park looking for a site big enough for the Motley before asking for our money back and moving on. I heard Ruff Diamond and Boomerang on the CB so I asked them where they were. They were looking for a suitable overnight camping spot so we hitched up with them and spent the night in a deserted carpark (complete with "No camping" signs) by the fishing spot well out of town. Happy hour was happy and most of the evening was wasted watching a dreadful movie called "Enemy of the State" on TV.

During the evening we were joined in our illegal camping by a caravan who presumably thought it would be OK to stop as we were already there. In the event, there was no ranger danger and we had a peaceful night.
