We left St George heading for Cunnamulla but a very rough road made progress difficult and we stopped at Bollon. .
This is a tiny town between the major (for the outback) towns of St George and Cunnamulla which boasts a rest area and a creekside camping spot. We chose the latter and set up for a two night stay.
The weather broke and it rained both nights but we had a pleasant camp site by the creek with no passing traffic and I managed to catch up on all the chapter business which I had been neglecting while we worked on UWHO.
I have to pass over the chapter official records to the new chapter secretary after the meeting in Paskeville so it was necessary to make sure that everything I had done on the iBook was transferred to the chapter laptop.
The Wallam Creek which runs through here from the north doesn't actually join up with any river but peters out a hundred kilometres (60 miles) or so south of here. We chatted to a council guy who told us that the drought, which hasn't broken yet in south west Queensland, has killed off all but one of the local population of Koalas, so this iconic Australian animal will, when this one dies, disappear from one more place. How many places there are to go I don't know but few people realise how close we are to losing the koala altogether.
