18th CMCA National Rally

We travelled to the rally in convoy with Max and Ammy, arrived at the site at one o'clock, met up with Philip and Helene, and entered the rally site without any delay. We were all sited together almost on the outer fringe but quite close to other Highway Wanderers and to a shed suitable for happy hours.

The rally ground is very large and everyone had a very big site so there was no need to segregate big rigs from the others which made a pleasant change. There were only about 600 vehicles at the rally though the site would accommodate two or three tome that number.

The weather was pleasantly sunny some days but most days were very windy which reduced the opportunities to meet and share time with lots of people.

Our happy hours were pretty good for the most part and seven couples joined the chapter during the rally so we must have been doing something right.

The Annual General Meeting of the Chapter went off without any drama and I produced the minutes and the newsletter before I handed over to the new Secretary so that she would not be thrown in the deep end, a tactic which brought some implied criticism from one of the more unreasonable members.

The Chapter Skit was our best ever. Helene finds it increasingly difficult to come up with new skits which are both entertaining and within the capabilities of our very inexperienced caste. This time she had us do the Time Warp scene from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. She was really lucky to have the services of Mel Ridge, a younger lady who had been our neighbour at the Casino Rally, who is fully of life and vitality, and who had performed the part of Columbia before so she didn't need any directing. Her husband volunteered to play the part of the transexual, transvestite Dr Frankenfurter which he did with great flair though he thought he was having a heart attack in the minutes before we went on stage though he was only suffering from acute stage fright. The other principals were played by other recently joined members and the chorus was the usual crew of skit participants. We all enjoyed the skit very much and judging by the comments the following day it was much appreciated by the audience.

Jean and I were conscripted into one of the two Highway Wanderers Trivia Night teams. The other team came third out of eighteen and we came first so we made our mark again T

he weather on the last day of the rally was so miserable that I had difficulty finding any of the people I needed to see before we left and in the evening, the Procters and ourselves repaired to the pub in Paskeville for a very pleasant dinner.
