Suncoasters Chapter Meeting

Thursday 13th

Having done all the things we needed to do in Brisbane, we decided to go to the Suncoasters Chapter Gathering at Imbil. While we are up there we might get to do a bit of research on real estate.

Though only a few had arrived on Thursday, we had a lively happy hour before the chill drove us all indoors.

Friday 14th

The night had been very cold so as soon as I got up I fired up the generator and the fan heater to make the Motley more habitable. The batteries also needed a bit of charge because the solar input is getting low with the onset of winter so I fired up the charger too. We are a fair distance from any other motorhomes so I don't think anyone else would have noticed.

We went to Gympie to check out the real estate situation but it was show day and everywhere was closed. We perused the listings in the windows and found several that meet our requirements, one was ideal but had been sold. We'll continue the search. I think the lower Mary Valley might fill the bill for us, not too far from Brisbane but not close enough to be too expensive.

Saturday 15th

In the morning we visited the estate agent in Imbil and left our details. It seems that there is nothing in our price range this side of Gympie. We will visit Gympie again when the estate agents are open to continue the research to the north.

We went to Borumba Dam to check out the campground. The dam is very strange with the top of the wall 12 m (39 feet) higher than the lip of the spillway. Either they expect a monster flood, in which case the design of the spillway leaves a lot to be desired and Imbil would be washed away, or they needed to get rid of many thousands of tonnes of spare rock fill.

In then evening we all went to the Bowling Club for dinner. The food was OK if a bit expensive but the Guinness was real and the company was good so we had an enjoyable evening.

Sunday 16th

The night was pretty cold so I got out the winter clothes and the winter doonah so we were warm and comfortable. I fired up the generator again to warm up the Motley before we had breakfast.

We went to the market but there was nothing worth buying and we watched the historic re-enactment which the local folk lay on for the passengers on the tourist train from Gympie.
