Having no more need to be in Brisbane, we decided to spend a few days with Jerry and Linda, motorhoming friends who have settled down in Gympie. We arrived in the afternoon, had a swim and then a pleasant happy hour.
We went shopping in the morning, veged out in the Motley during the heat of the day, did some work on Linda's PC in the afternoon.
In the evening we took the courtesy bus to the RSL and had some drinks and dinner before returning to Jerlinda for coffee by the pool.
I had to go into town to buy the weekend paper and some booze. I had a hard time finding a bottle shop and didn't get back until lunchtime.
In the afternoon we both had a nap as we had slept badly overnight. After happy hour, we had a barbecue washed down with a bottle of Banrock Station white shiraz which was very pleasant.
We had a quiet day. Jean had a mishap getting out of the pool and bruised her shin which laid her low so we didn't have happy hour.
Jean was feeling a lot better and wanted to visit Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach so we went for a day out in the Little Motley.
Tin Can Bay didn't impress. It is much like every other town built on sand by the water of an inlet. It also suffers from developmentitis. Though there is a very extensive foreshore, no camping is allowed anywhere.
We drove on, visiting Cooloola Cove which is an even stranger place with most of it well away from the water leaving residents with all the disadvantages of a remote seaside town with none of the advantages.
We decided that we should visit Inskip Point where the ferry goes to Fraser Island. On the way we got into some deep sand and Jean was convinced that we would be stranded. I put the Terios in diff-lock mode and we hauled ourselves to the ferry with no problems.
The Little Motley didn't miss a beat on the way back to the bitumen. We stopped at the same cafe in Rainbow Beach we had stopped at for morning coffee and had an excellent lunch of garlic prawns on rice. There was a mountain of salad with at least a dozen big prawns very nicely cooked so we enjoyed it immensely.
I dropped Jean at the Motley and drove into Gympie for the shopping. Happy hour went on until well after dark. Jerry and Linda had also had a big lunch so no-one was anxious to have dinner.
