Before leaving I took some photos of the site and found an information kiosk which explained that the local farmers had formed a landcare group to restore and protect the native trees and fauna. There are platypus in the river and koala in the area. I met a couple picking seeds from the young eucalypts in the reserve and guessed that they were from the landcare group. They have planted about 10,000 trees since they started just over ten years ago so I congratulated them on their efforts and wished them every success.
We drove to Port Franklin which is a very small fishing village on the river estuary but could not find anywhere to park the Motley so we moved on to Toora where we found plenty of room to park while I bought the paper, some magazines and some groceries.
We decided to go to Sale to check out the dump point and the showground.
We were warmly welcomed at the showground so we booked in for two nights. The Greyhound Club who run the camping sites provide a thick visitors pack which includes all the tourist brochures and also free drinks vouchers.
In the afternoon, I reconnected the mains power to the fridge and switched over to test it. It all worked as it should so perhaps we can travel without worry again.
We took advantage of the free drink vouchers at happy hour and stayed to sample the food in the bistro. The Wednesday night special was steak for $8 so we ate well.
The day dawned wet but we had to do the laundry so I went into town to find the laundromat.
We went to town to shop
I had to do some more work on the documents for the Self-containment Scheme but I hadn't received the necessary emails so I had to postpone that job.
I went out in the afternoon to check out the dump point at the boat harbour. I found that it was out of service and that one would need a very special adapter to allow one to connect so I believe that it isn't suitable for motorhomes.
I also visited the Sale Common and the Historic Swing Bridge.
I also tried to find somewhere to connect to the internet so that I could update the Motley website. I was most impressed with the local internet cafe because not only did they have a place for laptop users to work but all I had to do was plug into their ethernet network and I was off and running. I uploaded the recent changes to the website and downloaded the mail. I still didn't get one which had been sent to me from Head Office. I rang to ask for a second try but that didn't appear either. I know that my colleague, Ross K, has a copy so I'll ring him this evening and pick up the key points by phone.
