I had to buy some spares to repair the leaking fresh water system so we headed for Archerfield. Camec didn't have what I needed but they did have a Lumo Spot to replace the one that failed while we were in Melbourne.
I thought to try Coast to Coast in Coopers Plains and hey had exactly what I needed. I bought a little stock of spares so that I probably won't be caught out again with a water leak I can't mend on the road.
We reached Lawnton at about four and were warmly welcomed by Greg and Pat and by a couple in a caravan who have been keen readers of the website for years and who have now gone on the road full time themselves.
I went out early to do the laundry and the shopping.
I sourced a new mirror to replace the one lost in Bingara from the Mazda dealer in Aspley so we went there to pick it up. I had to get the mail and the email so we went on to Patricks Rd. There was no-one there so we did what we had to do and left. As we were getting into the car, Penny drew up with her two kids and our grandkids. She had seen the Little Motley on the way to school to pick up the children and thought to stop on the way back so that we could say hello to the kids. They are all going away for the long weekend, so we gave them hugs and promised to see them in a weeks time.
We went to Aspley to have coffee with Al to catch up with his new job. We arranged to visit him at home tomorrow.
We went to Nundah to do some maintenance and repairs. I looked at Al's toaster which he said we tripping the safety switch every time he switched it on. I stripped it down, found no fault, put it back together and tested it. It was perfectly OK.
Al and I also replace the hard drive in my iBook. Having run out of room, I had bought a 60Gb drive to replace the 20Gb drive. The mechanical part of the job went beautifully thanks to the detailed instructions Al had downloaded. The drive was reformatted but the installation of the OS prove to be a problem. The disks with OS 10.3 refuse to mount even though I had used them before to upgrade from OS 10.2.
In the evening, I installed OS 10.2 from the original iBook disks. The system works but most of my applications need OS 10.3 so I am working with only a very limited capability. I will solve this by buying OS 10.4 but this also has a problem as it comes on DVD and I have no DVD drive. Apparently, I can send the DVD to Apple who will replace it with CD-ROMs but how long this will take is anybodies guess. I guess I will have to struggle on with a severely handicapped machine for some time.
