We left the caravan park and headed for Woolworths. There was nowhere to park so I went to the dump point at the Tourist Information Centre. It took quite a while to dump the waste water and to fill up with fresh water. We parked the Motley on the outskirts of town and took the Little Motley back to Woolworths.
We wanted to leave Emerald because there are too many people there. I offered Jean a choice of going back the way we had come or take a diversion to Springsure. She chose Springsure because we had not been there before.
We stopped for lunch at the Virgin Rock Rest Area which is just a couple of kilometres north of Springsure and is right under the Virgin Rock, a very photogenic peak at the end of a very rocky range, I took GPS co-ordinates and photos for "The Book".
We drove round Springsure looking for the showground. We came upon Bauhinia Park and realised that it was the showground. We were looking around when a guy in a ute drove up and told us the deal. "The first night is $15 but the next two nights are free." I found a reasonably level site on the gravel because the caretaker suggested that if it rains, the black soil will get really boggy. As we settled in it started raining and it got quite heavy.
We decided to stay on in Springsure for a few days.
It rained all night and all day so we stayed at home in the Motley. I did some tidying up both paperwork and computer files while Jean did some cross stitch. Jean noticed that the mountain, Virgin Rock, had disappeared.
It stopped raining so we went into town to do a bit of shopping and to sus out what the town has to offer. We found a laundromat so I spent an hour of so there in the afternoon catching up with the washing.
With the return of good weather, the mountain reappeared.
There is a rally in the town tomorrow to protest against forced local government amalgamations so we decided to stay on a few more days. The caretaker was happy to have us stay.
The town was participating in the Red Friday demonstration against forced local government amalgamations so we went to town early. This is quite a small town so only a small number of people turned up but the passion for their own council was evident. Several of the town worthies including the Mayor spoke all encouraging people to lobby their MP in support of their own council. I spoke briefly as a visitor from a town which had suffered amalgamation and urged them to "fight the good fight".
I spent most of the day working on updating my waypoints file on the MacBook from CampsAustraliaWide4.
It was another beautiful clear bright day, a bit chill in the wind, but pleasant indoors. We went to town to do the shopping and get the scripts filled.
In the afternoon, I finished the Aussie Wandering Red Hatters business, sending stuff to the Matilda Rose website, to the new Chapter Queen and to the mailing list.
Another motorhome turned up later so I filled them in on the arrangements here and had a bit of a chat.
I had to move the Motley to empty the waste water tanks and fill the fresh water tanks.
I set to and finished the work on the Aussie Wandering Red Hatters transfer of the regal baton to the new queen.
We decided to stay on in Springsure for a few more days while the forecast says we will have some more cold nights. Being camped here at the showground with power at a remarkably cheap rate means that we can keep warm whatever the weather throws at us.
Despite it being a public holiday I went into town to do the laundry. In the afternoon I did a more work on the waypoint database.
