The weather has settled down to good spring weather which is a relief.
I did some chores but didn't get back into the kitchen project.
Jean had a hairdressing appointment in the morning.
I had to get a new 45 kg (100 lb) gas bottle from the hardware store and decided to get some more exercise by using the hand trolley. It's pretty easy taking the empty bottle down but bringing the full bottle which weighs about 78 kg (175 lb) back up the hill is quite strenuous. When I got to the hardware store they said that they would have stock in after lunch. I left my card and they rang me to say that the new stock had arrived. I went back to the shop, collected the new gas bottle, and dragged it up the hill to the house. I was well aware that I had added a lot of exercise to my days routine.
In the afternoon I finished building the first kitchen cupboard and I built the wall cupboard which goes over the cooker. I need to buy a suitable range hood to build into this cupboard so I'll have to go to Tamworth again soon. The new cupboards look pretty good. When I've fixed the lump of concrete on the kitchen floor, I'll have to book a plumber to install the water connections. Then I'll have to programme to rebuild around that date to minimise the disruption which will occur when I take to old cupboards and sink out. We can relocate the cooking to the Motley but I'd like to make this as brief as possible.
I needed to go to Tamworth to buy some more equipment for the kitchen. I also tried to buy an external antenna for the wireless modem but Dick Smith didn't have one , Jaycar has closed, and the Telstra Shop didn't have the appropriate type in stock. I visited the Homestead for coffee and downloaded a lot of software updates.I had been having trouble with Safari since I installed a recent update so when I found a newer update I thought I might get out of trouble. Unhappily the new update also crashes with a kern protection failure just like the last one and the previous version. I have ditched the preference file but the new one generated by the new version just says "the application crashed at launch".
We got back to Barraba at about half past four and we were both pretty well finished for the day.
I had a phone call from my colleague Ken to say that the Lions Xmas cakes had been delivered yesterday. The courier had no delivery address so tried to deliver them to the Lions Post Box but that didn't work (because the box was too small for 300 kg (660 lb) of ckaes. The Postmasrter sent him to Ken's house. Kenchecked our house and found that we were out so they unloaded them at Ken's place. I'll have to move them to my store room soon.
I got some more work done on the kitchen but I still have to get rid of the concrete.
In the afternoon I went to John and Vicki's to return a book they had lent me and we had a long chat about all sorts of stuff.
It rained in the afternoon but not enough to fill the rainwater tank. I had done a bit of a modification to the feed from the gutter to the tank and the rain allowed me to check that all was working OK.
I had to collect the Lions Xmas cakes from Ken. He told me that our greengrocer had been asking when the cakes were coming so I called in and left him a couple of boxes.
In the afternoon I had to take a couple of hours sleep because I had woken up very early this morning.
I cooked chicken stirfry for dinner. Jean had asked that I use as little oil as possible. Despite a couple of problems during the cooking, it was delicious.
We walked again this morning having missed a couple of days.
After the lawn was mowed recently, some of the weed had grown unreasonably big so I got the sprayer out and gave them a dose of weed killer.
I spent most of the day preparing my Eco-Camping Australia presentation for motorhomer gatherings.
