We had morning coffee at the Bakery with Jeremy, Rachel, the kids, and Jeremy's cousin, Lynn and her little daughter, Kate.
We headed back to Lawnton because we have a couple of appointments in Brisbane in the next few days. The weather had turned overcast and muggy but we were able to keep cool in the airconditioned comfort of the Motley as we have a powered site in the showground.
We were up early to take the Motley for a routine service at Grand Prix Motors at Aspley. We stopped at the Coffee Club in Aspley for breakfast and then went to Chermside to do some shopping.
Al had suggested we have coffee with him at midday so we went to Nundah and called in to the Brisbane City Library "Withdrawn from Collection" shop to restock with books.
We had coffee at the Coffee Club in Ascot where I took advantage of the offer of a free hour on the Internet wireless hot spot.
We went back to Aspley to see if the service on the Motley was done. I had to wait a few minutes but we got away at about two thirty. Happily they had re-gassed the cab airconditioner and it now works again - Hooray.
We returned to Lawnton Showground for an afternoon rest. I had a phone call from Sarah saying that the telephone was out of commission because "someone" had cut the wires sticking out of the wall of his bedroom. I'll have to get some cable and see if I can re-wire the phone connection and the modem connection.
It was clear and bright when we at up at about eight o'clock. I went out to get some pills Jean needed and some groceries.
We both took an afternoon nap and watched a bit of the cricket. The weather closed in but the rain held off.
We went to Patricks Rd to mend the telephone connection that had been severed by the young "engineer". He said that he was trying to make the wiring "safe". The ADSL modem had apparently been playing up for some time and my repair seems to have corrected that.
Jean, Sarah, and Kelly went shopping for new clothes for Kelly who is going to a music camp. They came back with lots of trendy stuff.
I faded after lunch and we returned to Lawnton. Jean reminded me that I hadn't bought the Weekend Australian so I went out again. I finally got a copy at Aspley after calling at number of newsagents nearer to Lawnton so the paper which cost $2.20 had a delivery cost of $2.
We went to Cafe Conti in Wilston for brunch with the Marretts and Alain. Jean went back to Patricks Rd with Sarah and spent the afternoon sorting out various sewing projects.
I went back to Lawnton to change the oil in the generator and then to go to Kallangur to do the laundry before going to Patricks Rd to pick Jean up.
I had made an appointment to have the generator serviced at a place in Brendale so we were out just after nine. They had to take the generator out of the truck to get access to all the things they needed to check. We went to Strathpine Westfield for a coffee while they did the removal. They called us back just after ten to say we could take the Motley back to Lawnton.
I had slept very badly overnight so I was quite bushed when we settled back in to the airconditioned comfort of the Motley. At lunchtime, I went out to do a bit of shopping. It rained a bit but the sun came out and the temperature rose. In the afternoon, I took a nap.
I took the train to town to put the MacBook in for repair of the top cover which had a minor defect which Al said was a common fault and could be corrected under the warranty.
I got back to Lawnton at lunch time and the rest of the day was veged way.
We went to Barb and Ron's for lunch and had a wonderful long chat about this, that, and all sorts of things including their visit to brother Colin in Cornwall.
In the afternoon we visited some old friends from our Thai Chi days. John has retired and Glennis has resigned from the Taoist Thai Chi Society after some difficulties with the "Boss", of a kind which reminded me of some of the bad "bosses " I had to work for when I was a practising engineer and manager. There seems to be a great increase in the number of people who believe that their superior position makes it unnecessary to take into account anything suggested by the staff who have to make things come true. We went out to the Manly West Leagues Club for dinner and had a pleasant meal and some nice wine while we chatted some more. It was so good to catch up with John and Glennis again.
We had another easy day. The guy from O'Briens arrived at midday to fit a new windscreen to the Motley.
I had a call from MacFarlane Generators to say that the parts for the generator had come in and we could pick the repaired generator up tomorrow afternoon.
Al had taken the repaired MacBook home so we went to Nundah pick it up and to to have a lovely Thai dinner with him. I gave him my last surviving iBook which was cactus. He promised to try and get it back in order and offered to give me back another of my IBooks to give me some redundancy in case of failure of the MacBook. He now has so many Macs that he wont miss one.
I was out early to do the laundry. The guy from MacFarlanes rang to say that the generator was reassembled and was working like a new one. I arranged to take the truck in after lunch to have it re-installed. We had to veg out in the Motley because the day was another scorcher.
I packed everything away to prepare the Motley for another trip out and then had lunch.
I took the truck to Strathpine while Jean went to the shopping centre in the Terios.I got back to Lawnton at three o'clock and set up for the night. The airconditioning was much appreciated after a couple of hours in the heat of the day.
Al came in the evening to give me back one of the iBooks. We had a cuppa and a chat before he had to be off.
