We stopped for morning smoko at a town called Eidsvold in a very pretty park between the showground and the river.

It had green grass and nice shade trees and lots of birds including Great Egret, Straw-necked and Sacred Ibis, Little Pied Cormorant and Pacific Black Duck.

We stopped in Monto for shopping and lunch. I had to visit the Retravision store because the owner had emblazoned the name Chalmers on the shopfront. His grandfather had migrated from Scotland direct to Queensland so any connection with our family had to be pretty far back.

In the afternoon we cadged a lift with Gerry and Linda, who come from New Zealand and who drive a semi-trailer motorhome with a Charade garaged inside, to the Cania Gorge which is quite close by.

The gorge is quite interesting with rock walls on both sides of the road. At the top of the gorge is the Cania Dam where we saw lots of Whiptail Wallabies.

While we were at the lookout we were lucky to see a pair of Wedge-tailed Eagles take off from close by and circle up on the thermal and set off across country.

The night's stop was at a good rest area on the top of the range. We had a cosy campfire and I excelled myself by hitting my head on the low roof of the picnic table, not once but three times. It was decided that I had demonstrated that I had nothing to lose by banging my head.
