Up to Kiandra and then south towards Khancoban. We had been told that Three Mile Dam just out of Kiandra has a good free camping area so we checked it out. A mite cold at this time of year, according to a family who were camped there, with overnight temperatures dropping to around 0°C (32°F).
The drive down the Alpine Way is pretty spectacular when the sun is shining. The road goes to 1600 metres (5200 ft) and the type of forest varies with both altitude and geology. In one place we saw may dead trees which we later discovered were Mountain Ash which are ringbarked by severe bushfire.
Needing to get back to civilization where the mobile phone works, we headed into Victoria to stopover in Corryong.
Caught again at the State border with fruit from the unclean part of the country. We put the suspect items in the bin and bought fresh in Corryong
The town caravan park left a bit to be desired but the one outside town is set by a creek, is well grassed and has lots of oak trees.
We stayed an extra day to do the laundry.
