We needed to make some progress towards Theodore so we set off into Queensland through the Hebel Gate where customs duties were collected in the days before federation.
Hebel is just a pub and a store but, nevertheless, the rest area is declared "NO CAMPING" because the storekeeper has two or three caravan sites behind the store.
We pressed on to Dirranbandi where there was reported to be a free camping area. This turned out to be quite unsuitable so we had to park in the Showground where the use of 15 square metres (150 sq ft) of ground and 20 l (5 gal) of water cost us $8. We don't plan to stop here again.
