Keryn and I printed the address labels for the Chapter newsletter mailing.
As it started to rain, we decided to leave Sherwood Forest early to avoid the risk of bogging in the driveway. I chose to take the toll road to Brisbane to avoid as many traffic lights as possible. The rain became very heavy but it eased off before we reached the Gateway Bridge.
When I later spoke to Keryn on the phone she said that they had had an inch of rain during the day so we wouldn't have got out if we had stayed much longer.
We booked into the caravan park for a full week to take advantage of the extra discount. As the rain didn't let up we hunkered down for the rest of the day.
Jean needed scrips for some of her medication so we went to the doctor before going to Sarah's for a morning of scrapbooking. I spent the day folding newsletters and addressing envelopes, a task with which I had some much needed help from various members of the family.
I had cooked some beef curry and Sarah did the dhal and rice so we all had a really good dinner.
We posted the newsletters out. It was surprisingly easy as the lady in the Post Office took my word for how many there were and simply put them straight in a mailing tray.
Ian went to Armidale to see Charlie and we all had curry and rice for dinner.
I did a few chores at Sarah's but, as I had forgotten to take the multimeter, I wasn't able to complete them all.
Jean had some old photographs which had been damaged and had had a quote for $40 each to have them computer re-generated. I scanned them in to Sarah's computer and did the retouching myself. It started quite slowly but when I discovered the right tools and got some experience using them, I got quite adept. The results were just what Jean wanted. Sadly, the Canon printer is not up to the job of photo quality printing so we will have to take files to a print shop (or buy a new printer!).
I finished the retouching of the photographs and Jean finished the sewing she had been doing and we returned to Aspley for dinner and a veg out evening.
Laundry day.
In the afternoon I went to Kippa-ring to buy a DO NOT OVERTAKE TURNING VEHICLE sign for the back of the trailer. Unfortunately the company was out of stock so I will have to go back another day.
I had arranged to have a defect in the Little Motley fixed so it was up and out early.
Al had booked the old Barina in for some repairs so he drove to Enoggera and came back to Mitchelton by train. he joined us all at Cafe Zanetti and we went to Brookside to do some shopping.
I had bought some vegetables to make a stew and they needed cooking before they went off. I bought some diced beef to go with them and made a stew in the Dreampot.
We went to Patricks Rd to mend the vacuum cleaner! What else is going to break? I found the fault to be a broken wire in the self reeling power cable. This has obviously been on its last legs for some time and explains why Alain was able to fix a "faulty switch" by thinking good thoughts and by kicking it a bit.
In the morning I had to mend another leak in the kitchen cupboard! This time, the bracket I had made to support the water filter had all but broken with the constant vibration. I knew when I made it four years ago that it wouldn't last. Now I have removed the filter pending the manufacture of a better bracket; a task which will have to go in the queue.
We went to Cafe Zanetti for brunch and while we were there one of Sarah's friends from Warringah Council turned up, I guess by invitation.
After I had collected both the kids from kindergarten and from school, I took Annette back into town and then went to Powertech in Woolloongabba to buy some accessories for the iBook; a mouse to encourage Jean to use the machine, and a floppy disk drive to provide a convenient interface with the Chapter laptop PC!.
We went to Kippa-ring to pick up the DO NOT OVERTAKE TURNING VEHICLE sign.
Jean had an appointment at the hairdresser in Mitchelton so we had to go to Cafe Zanetti!.
The beep, which had been at the repairer since Tuesday, was ready so I gave Al a lift to Enoggera. The repairs seem very good and it looks like a new car, well almost. Al will take it in for some mechanical repairs on Monday and will go to Tweed Heads on Tuesday to have it tested and registered in NSW.
The Marretts had a fancy dress party at school and had gone to lots of trouble with their costumes. Ian was a pirate, Sarah was Mumma Cass, Kelly was a witch and Ross was a black cat, her familiar. They all looked really good. Its a pity that it was raining but they went off anyway.
