We planned to stay in Barcaldine until the newsletter was printed and posted but Keryn said she was going to do it on the road with the assistance of Anita, Chris and Val so we decided to head off towards the west.
After a little shopping, we drove to Ilfracombe for lunch. There was a sign on the Library/Post Office at Ilfracombe "Internet Centre" so I went in to sus it out. They have a quite sophisticated network there but only one data line which serves the Post Office, the Library, and several internet terminals. I would have had to take all that offline to connect the iBook so I thanked the lady and decided to try to get a connection in Longreach.
We decided that a little comfort would be nice so we booked into the caravan park we had visited before. We knew that the Procters had booked in here when they left Barcaldine on Monday so I asked where the were parked. "On the site next to yours" was the reply.
I went into town to buy the paper and to use the internet centre. This is a PC shop which has a terminal and a line available. When the guy saw the iBook, he said "Oh. a slackintosh"! I tried to downloaded the file which was supposed to fix my mobile phone to iBook connection but it was a .exe file so I am still stuck. I do have an invitation to call tech support at Kyocera Australia so I might get some joy tomorrow.
When we arrived, I had made a booking for the roast dinner and poets evening. The dinner was good but it got too cold so we left before the poet arrived. I did warm his audience up with a recitation of "It was a dark and stormy night" which went down well as they had not heard it before.
We shopped in Longreach. I fitted the new CDMA antenna, cooked dinner which we shared with Helene and Philip, before retiring to the Motley when the chill of the evening set in.
Because Helene's mother is failing, the Procters have decided to return to Brisbane so we will not have the pleasure of their company on the road.
In the morning, we went to town to do the shopping. We had coffee with big John who is staying at Ilfracombe but came to Longreach to use the phone.
In the afternoon I finished the installation of the new CDMA antenna and mended the tail light assembly which I had damaged slightly in a jack knife manoeuvre at Archerfield a couple of weeks ago.
In the evening we had dinner with the Procters in their motorhome, Kinky, to celebrate their last night before they return to Brisbane.
Having finished all the essential repairs, we had a lay day.
