We headed of to the west and reached the Wonarah Bore in time for morning tea. The Kennedys were parked up there and we spent a pleasant hour with them. They had news of the location of some of the other Highway Wanderers, Ruff Diamond, Boomerang and Figment are at Threeways, Gunnadoo is some way behind them, and Ozdyssey is still in Mt Isa.
We stopped at Barkly Roadhouse for air for the trailer tyres and water and had lunch in the car park.
By the time we reached the 41 Mile rest area, I had had enough for the day so we parked up in time for afternoon tea.
The Barkly Tableland is pretty dry this time and there is some evidence of recent bush fires. The birds are few and far between and even the road kill seems down. There was one dead big feral cat and Jean spotted a little live one just before we pulled in here.
We chatted with an elderly Dutch couple who are travelling extensively in a caravan. They planned to go to Darwin this trip but the hot weather got the better of them and they are now heading for north Queensland for the winter.
We also chatted to a very cheerful Tasmanian lady who is travelling full time in an old bus school which cost them $2000 plus lots of conversion time and effort. She always visits everyone wherever she is parked just to meet new people.
We watched the sun set over the Barkly Tableland and retired to the Motley for supper, reading, and bed. The damned telephone woke me at 1 am telling me that we had 4 voice messages. There was enough signal, presumably from Tennant Creek 75 km (45 miles) away, to get this information but not enough, of course to be able to do anything about them, not that I wanted or needed to do anything about them at one o'clock in the morning! If I hadn't left the telephone on, or if I hadn't fitted such a good antenna, I would still be asleep instead of writing this!.
