After breakfast, we packed up and moved the Motley to the day use carpark and walked to the falls. Not nearly as impressive as the others we have seen - but - when I asked the ranger about the flood debris in the trees he showed us the pictures of the falls during the disastrous flood of 1998 which devastated Katherine. The volume of water pouring into the pool then was astounding. Perhaps we should come here in the wet!.
We drove to Katherine, picked up the mail, shopped for supplies, had lunch in a local cafe, dumped the black water, filled up with diesel and with water, and left Katherine headed for WA.
The first rest area we came to on the King River was not at all inviting so we pressed on to the second at Limestone Creek. This turned out to be very popular with several motorhomes and several caravans already in residence. We found a suitable piece of grass to park on while marvelling at the cheek of some motorhomers. Someone had parked their quite new and very expensive Swagman not entirely off the roadway and then set up their chairs on half of what remained of the road. As one of our neighbours said, "There's always one!"
I spent the evening reworking my geographical database to facilitate reporting information to Philip for inclusion in the second edition of the book.
We passed a peaceful night disturbed only occasionally by the passing traffic.
