We were, as always, last out of the rest area.
Stopping to get the co-ordinates of the next rest area, we met up with Val and Charlie Dawson who had been into Kakadu since we had last seen them. They enjoyed the park as much as we did.
Pressing on to the west, we stopped for lunch at Victoria River, only to meet with them again.
We put them onto a free camping spot just east of Timber Creek but we went into town to stop for two days at the caravan park so that we could do the laundry and organise the fruit and vegetables before crossing into Western Australia.
The rules here are very strict with no fruit, vegetables, nuts or honey being allowed into WA from elsewhere. They also confiscate use fruit and vegetable containers so we had to make other arrangements for the beautiful hessian coffee bag we bought at Mareeba and which has never seen any fruit, vegetables or coffee beans for that matter. In order to avoid an argument, we posted it to ourselves in Kununurra, technically against the law but, in this case, excusable as the law could be made an ass by an over-diligent and too literal inspector.
I was up early to do the laundry.
I organised all the fresh fruit and vegetables, cooking a beef and potato curry to get rid of all the fresh spuds . We will have to throw away a few onions and maybe the stock of rice. I also made a big dish of fruit salad to encourage us to eat up all the fresh fruit.
Most of the day was spent working on the chapter membership records and on the geographical database.
