We returned to Perth to take delivery of a new car. We have traded in the Barina and bought a new Daihatsu Terios baby 4 wheel drive. We have felt all the way down the WA coast that we were missing out on some of the best places to visit because we were not prepared to take either the Motley or the Barina down the bush tracks leading them.

We now have a vehicle which is a great little town car but is quite capable on gravel and dirt roads. It certainly wouldn't go into the extreme conditions for which the big 4WDs are built but we don't plan to tackle that kind of territory.

We also have to complete the setting up of the Bendigo Bank account which we used to move money from Sydney to Perth. We will probably close the CUA account in Brisbane in favour of the Bendigo Bank because of the Australia wide coverage and because we feel comfortable supporting a bank which is dedicated to its customers.

Thursday 17th

The weather took a sudden and dramatic turn for the worse with very high winds and heavy rain. We later heard in the news that cars had had to pull over and houses had been unroofed. During this I did the laundry! Late in the afternoon, the wind dropped as suddenly as it had come in and the sun came out. What a strange place this is.

I took Jean to the doctor because she was worried that a persistent pain in her leg was a sign of impending DVT. The doctor reassured her that she had classic sciatica rather than any vascular problem and that she would have no trouble on the trip to San Francisco as long as she observed all the usual precautions.

Friday 18th

I spent the day setting up the trailer to take the new vehicle and doing other chores.
