I left early in case a ranger chanced to come by and had breakfast in Cohuna because I couldn't find anywhere to park in Kerang.

The next marked camping spot was a the Torrumbarry Weir, the site of Lock 26. We had visited most of the locks up to Lock 11 at Mildura earlier in our travels and I wanted to pursue my study of the great River Murray.

There were many more locks planned for this stretch of river but only Lock 15 and Lock 26 were constructed. The Torrumbarry Weir was originally of the same design as those lower down the river but seepage under the weir cause a catastrophic failure and it was replaced in the 1990s by a much more modern weir with decent foundations, hydraulically operated gates and a fish ladder which traps carp and lets other fish through.

There is an interpretive centre which would be pretty good but for the fact that one of the exhibits has a presence detector to actuate the sound track and, just because you are in the room, it competes with the one you are trying to listen to.

I stopped in Echuca for lunch and to do the shopping and drove on to the next camping spot on the banks of the Goulburn River. Well by a bridge over the river, I couldn't see any water from the top of the levy bank, just well established grass. I think the river channel is at the other end of the bridge. I'll find out how much water there is tomorrow.
