We hotfooted it back to Brisbane, booked into the caravan park at Newmarket which is not far from the hospital, set up and then went to the hospital to visit Alain.
He was in a bad way with constant nausea, frequent dry retching. and such bad backache that he couldn't lie in one position for more than a few minutes.
He is being given the standard treatment for pancreatitis which is nil by mouth, saline drip, and medication for the nausea and for the pain. They do regular blood tests to see if the markers for pancreatitis are coming down as they should.
Sarah came to visit at lunchtime and we stayed until we had to leave to get dinner.
Jean went to visit Alain while I went to Woolloongabba to buy some more plumbing bits.
I got back to the hospital in time for Al's move to a four bed ward. He seemed much better and they had put him on clear fluids and promised to remove the stomach tube if he didn't throw up any more.
Al rang at dinner time to say that the doctor had seen him, had agreed to remove the tube, had put him on a limited diet, and had said he could go home tomorrow if he continued to improve. He was most enthusiastic about that idea.
We spent the morning with Al in the hospital and took him home to Nundah when they released him after lunch. We settled him in and assured ourselves that he was OK before returning to the Motley.
We decided that, as he is home, we don't need to stay in Newmarket any longer so we'll relocated to Petrie or Lawnton in the morning.
