We set off to the north after breakfast. We stopped for morning tea at Tyagarah, for lunch at Coolangatta Airport and at a service centre on the Gold Coast Highway to take on some air for the trailer tyres. We arrived at Petrie at about 4 o'clock. The log shows that we covered 278km in about four hours on the road despite many kilometres at 90 - 100 kph.
With a weather forecast of a minimum of 17°C overnight, we decided to stay at Wyllie Park to take advantage of what free camping there is around here. We were the first in but several others joined us in the evening.
As we were sitting watching TV after dinner, somebody drove through the park in a ute and threw some crackers as loud as gunshots presumably to scare us. I suppose they must have got some amusement out of their senseless act but they certainly couldn't see that Jean was shaking like a leaf so I think they must have had a really high rating for sheer dumb stupidity. It's a good thing that we haven't suffered from such uncivilised behaviour before in our seven years on the road and we hope that it will be more than another seven years before we have to put up with it again.
We had arranged to meet the family for brunch at the Coffee Club at Aspley.
We were visited by some Highway Wanderer friends after lunch and spent a pleasant afternoon catching up with all their and our doings.
