It was really cold overnight with the minimum temperature touching -9°C.
I did a bit of work on the computer, a bit of sitting around chatting, and a bit of watching motor racing on TV.
The frosts are getting deeper each day with last night's minimum -10°C
We had a visit from John Samin who offered to bring back any building material I need when he takes his truck to Tamworth next Monday. He also gave me some useful advice concerning the renovation of the bathroom.
Jean challenged me to Google search for my name. I got 1440 hits but the amazing thing is that I came in at number 6, 7 and 8. This without making any effort to improve my Google ranking.
It was exceedingly cold again overnight. I had added another blanket to my half of the bed to try and keep warm and it worked well. We were pretty late getting up and it was pleasantly warm by the time we went to town.
In the afternoon, I cooked another all bran cake and then took a siesta. I stayed up late to watch the Tour de France which captured my attention with a 50 km chase down of a 3 man breakaway. Robbie McEwen failed by 100 mm (4 in) to win the stage.
I went into Tamworth to pick up the gas heater which had been converted to LPG.
The gas heater is a great success. It is a Thermatic device which regulates itself so I don't have to get up during the evening to change the setting as I did with the other one. It is also a little smaller than the other one with the lowest setting using two burners rather than three so it doesn't tend to overheat the room and it will, I hope, use less gas.
I needed to order some material for the bathroom renovation so I had to trial fit the shower base. I found two problems. I had made a new drain adapter because the one the plumber had made was the wrong size. The replacement I had made was also the wrong size so I had another try and got it right. The other problem is that the bathroom walls are not square so I will have to do some tricky adjustments with the battens for the new wall linings. I got the list of required materials done and gave it to John Samin who had offered to fetch the stuff from Tamworth for me.
I had a Lions Club dinner meeting at which I was asked to do a "This is my life". It seemed to go down well.
I had a bad night with a streaming cold which force me to get up at five o'clock to administer hot milk and honey and karvol neither of which stopped the sneezing or the streaming nose.
John Samin had to go to Tamworth to get some building supplies so he brought back some fibro-cement for me as well. He will bring some timber next week so I will be able to do the bathroom walls and then get then plumber back in.
I spent the afternoon preparing a big trifle for the wine club Xmas dinner.
It rained all night and I recorded 10 mm for the 24 hours to 9 am.
I thought I was going down with the flu but it didn't catch hold. We had a Lions working bee but the rain had made it unworkable so I returned home early.
I rained most of the day.
In the evening, we went to the wine club Xmas in July Dinner. It was held at the house of the President of the club, a lovely country house with lots of space and very warm despite the weather. The food was really good, the conversation was extensive, the trifle went down well, the Presidents wife said that I would be marked down as the official trifle maker for future dinners. I was complimented on my voice after I recited a few little poems.
When we came home some time after eleven o'clock, there was still some cloud about but there were some stars and the gibbous moon was out.
