Jean was still crook so I went to town to see if I could get some medication from a Chemist. I got a bottle of stuff and Jean started a course. We waited around in Tenterfield until she had taken a second dose and then we headed off towards Barraba. My plan was to stop half way home but Jean was keen to get back to Barraba as quickly as possible. We drove all the way, arriving just after half past three. Jean lay down for a sleep while I organised what I could to get the house habitable. All was well except for a very large number of "Daddy Long Legs" which had made webs all over the place. I got to work with the cobweb brush and disposed of them all. The lawn needs mowing but it isn't as long as I expected. If the cooler weather kicks in as forecast I'll be able to get it all done this week. I parked the truck in the front yard to make the unloading easier.
We will sleep in the house but we will have to eat in the Motley as I won't get the stuff moved back into the house until tomorrow.
Jean felt she needed some immediate medical attention so we went to the hospital. Doctor Deepal was there and gave her an injection of Stemetil to see if that would help. He said to avoid movement as much as possible and to come back in the morning if the vomiting hadn't stopped.
Jean felt a bit better when she got up and managed some breakfast without incident so we didn't need to go back to the hospital. I had made an appointment for Jean to see Doctor Sanji so we went into town. The Doctor prescribed Stemzine for the nausea and asked her to see an ENT specialist in Tamworth to have a large lump of wax removed from her left ear.
I picked up the mail which was waiting for us. The Postmaster was waiting for me as he had "seen us going to the doctor". It was quite a large pile of mail as it was about a month since we had received any. Some of it was bills, some junk and the rest was five back issues of New Scientist which will keep me amuse for quite some time.
I managed to move some more of the stuff out of the Motley before I had to stop for a rest. I got it it finished by three o'clock and moved the Motley onto its site in the back yard.
I was up early to mow the front lawn. while it was cool. I got it mowed right back to the washing line.
After doing the shopping, I visited John Samin to ask how Vicki was getting on with her radiation therapy. She is fine and will be back home in mid March.
I discovered that John was preparing to do some concreting so offered him the use of my cement mixer. I had to grease the bearings and pump up the tyres. The second tyre presented a real problem because I couldn't get the compressor to get any air into the tyre. I found that the valve insert was broken so I bought a replacement. That didn't work so I investigated more. I found that the valve stem was blocked with foreign matter. I eventually got it to work and managed to get the tyre properly inflated. I dragged the mixer up to Johns place and he was most appreciative.
I was quite bushed by all the work so I took the afternoon off. In the evening, I cooked a chicken dish copied from one my sister, Barbara, had fed us when we visited. It wasn't the same but it went down very well.
The weather was good so I did another stint of morning mowing. The grass and weeds in the back yard are pretty hard to mow with my mower so I stopped when I had done all the way back yo the door of the Motley. We also did some laundry which dried quite quickly.
Just after lunch a strong westerly blew up and we had quite a bit of rain. I spent the rest of the afternoon, futzing on the computers. Al had sent a new battery for the iBook so I spent some time getting its accounts and filing system in order.
We both had appointments to see the doctor in the morning. Jean was able to report that her symptoms were quite reduced so Doctor Sanji was happy. I reported a long term cough. Dr Sanji confirmed that I had no problem in my chest but she prescribed a corticosteroid turbuhaler to see if it would improve my condition.
We did the laundry while the sun was shining.
I was quite cool overnight so, after I had done the shopping, I spent an hour mowing the rest of the back yard. The back paddock still needs doing but my mower isn't capable of dealing with grass and weeds which are about 600mm (2 feet) high. I'll have to get someone with a big slasher to do it, or get some sheep, or leave it until the next drought.
I set to work to install the new hatch covers I had bought a Camec. The cover of the hatch in the kitchen was not quite the same as the original one so I was only able to install it without enabling the opening mechanism. Since it is a ventilated hatch it will be OK. This was the hatch which had leaked badly while we were in Queensland and which I had covered with a garbage bag thus defeating the ventilation which is necessary for gas safety. The hatch in the bathroom and the one over the bed went OK. I wasn't able to replace the cover of the hatch over the shower as the new spare didn't fit but it is OK and didn't really need replacing. I now have a spare cover for two of the four hatches.
After all that work in the heat of the day, I took a long rest.
It was another clear bright day after a cool night. I got the hedge trimmer out and finished trimming the hedge. Later on, after the day had got warmer, I started to clear up the clippings but I didn't get that all done.
