On the way out of the caravan park, I managed to dislodge a boulder in the garden with the steps which we had failed, yet again, to retract before departure. The damage was minor in that the fabric of the truck was unharmed but the steps were badly bent and couldn't be retracted.

At this point the park owner appeared in his little front end loader so he did a bit of careful nudging on the steps so that I could retract them.

We went into Innisfail and found an engineering works ready and able then and there to effect suitable repairs for a really modest fee.

Shopping and sightseeing done, we headed north to find the safari.

Our fearless leader had mentioned Babinda as a potential free camp. My maps and books showed only one camp ground in Babinda at a place called the Boulders so we went there.

We didn't find the safari but we did find a charming little camp ground set between two of Queensland's biggest mountains. There were a couple of other motorhomes there so we decided to stay.

We had a very pleasant happy hour with a couple we had met briefly at Townsville and their friends.

The two men had met at Townsville thirty years ago when they were both travelling the country in "whiz-bangs" (VW combi campervans), had maintained an ongoing friendship, had both taken to the road again after retirement and had met up at the Townsville rally. So much for the six degrees of separation.
