Tuesday 13th

We planned to stay another day at Kalbar but we got a call for help from Al so we returned to Brisbane. In the event, his problem was solved before we reached Ferny Hills.

Someone had told us that Samford Showground was available for camping at only $7.50 pvpn so we decided to try it. The word was that it was necessary to ring but we were unable to get in contact and when we drove there the gate was locked so we went back to Lawnton.

Wednesday 14th

It being Sarah's last day in the office at Mitchelton, we went there to do any final chores that needed doing.

That done we had lunch at Patricks Rd and retired to Lawnton when Sarah left to go to the Gold Coast.

Thursday 15th

I had an appointment with a dentist in Arana Hills. She decided that the tooth which was causing pain and was loose would be removed. She also said two other teeth would have to come out later but she referred me to a periodon'tist before she would do any further treatment.

Jean had gone to the Gold Coast with Sarah and the children and they arrived back at half past six very wrung out because the children had been noisy pests all the way home. We escaped to the Motley.

Friday 16th

We both had appointments with an audiologist. I was offered a digital hearing aid for one ear. I chose the left as this is the side Jean talks to when we are driving. Jean was asked to go to a doctor to determine if treatment is appropriate for her condition and her GP arranged for her to see an ENT specialist next week.

Saturday 17th

We had arranged to have a leisurely breakfast with Al at Cafe Zanetti so we slept in and ambled down to Mitchelton. Indulgence Day breakfast was really good. We followed that with a visit to the pet shop to buy some new fish. All the predatory ones have been returned to be sold to others and the new ones are supposed to be unlikely to eat one another.

We returned to Patricks Road and I spent a long time trying to solve some problems with the iBook. Al gave me a copy of Disk Warrior and I repaired the internal drive and reformatted the new external drive. I also downloaded the latest version of Carbon Copy Cloner which is said to be Panther compatible so maybe now I can do backups to the new drive easily.

We visited the Oriental Bangkok to buy takeaway and had a delicious dinner with enough left over for tomorrow.

Sunday 18th

After cleaning out both water tanks, we had a do nothing day just reading and sleeping before dining once again on delicious Thai food.

As it was the last day of the school holidays Sarah and Ian wanted to take the kids out and Ian had heard that there was a new park at Seventeen Mile Rocks with lots of fun things for kids to do so we went there for a picnic.

The park is a reclaimed industrial site which had been used by a cement company for over a hundred years to process coral dredged from the bottom of Morton Bay. Their licence to do this had not been renewed in 1995 and the site has now been converted to a very large park with lots of grass, lots of picnic shelters, lots of sand pits and paddling pools, a flying fox and a hugh climbing frame in the shape of a Xmas tree about 10 m (30 ft) high and an amphitheatre for outdoor concerts. All this is very new but it looks good and it works well as the kids can do all sorts of exciting things and their parents can watch from a safe distance.

The kids had a terrific time, apart from the odd tanty, and, as the Marretts hadn't brought a picnic, we repaired to the local shopping centre at Mount Ommaney and had Macas, kebabs and chinese followed by some rather good coffee. The shopping proved abortive and we don't plan to visit Mt Ommaney again. As it was getting on for late afternoon, we went straight back to Lawnton.

Tuesday 20th

I went to the periorontist and , after a diagnostic examination, was booked in for two one hour sessions of deep cleaning.

Sarah had asked us to pick up the children from school so that she and Ian could have a day out together so we repaired to Patricks Road, duly joined the other parents picking up kids from school., fed the children afternoon tea and supervised homework.

While trying to do some stuff on the iBook I had discovered that the battery was cactus so I arranged for a replacement. Al was amused that I had been unable to get the iBook and the eMac to network and he did some arcane stuff and fixed the problem which is caused by some confusion in the minds of both computers because they have a USB port which looks a bit like an ethernet port to connect to the ADSL modem.

We had dinner with them, a delicious beek stew with dumplings and retired to Lawnton late.
