January 2014A wonderful task from some Barraba Council workersWednesday, 29th January 2014I was impressed when two guys from TRC came to the Bunya Pine Tree in Gotha St outside 46 Alice St. They had planned for one of them to get up near the top of the tree so that he could use a motored saw to remove the fruit from the tree. I guess that they knew that the fruit cold fall off the tree eventually and if it fell on someone's head it would cause them a very hard issue, sometimes people are killed if the Bunya Pjne Tree fruit falls on their head. I was pleased to help the other guy pick up all the stuff which had fallen to the ground off the top of the tree and we put it in their utility. We were careful to avoid being hit by the stuff falling down. At the end of the job I counted the fruit which had been removed and it was about 25 items. I congratulated both of them when they had finished their work. After they had finished and left I had to pick up lots of small leaf items off the pavement because that is my volunteer job. To remove things which would hurt people's feet if they were walking on the pavement while there were Bunya Pine leaves on the ground. Another Wonderful journeyMonday, 27th January 2014There have been some fires on hills south of Barraba. Rachel took me on a trip to see those hills. We went down Longmore Road and saw some fires on some hills south west of Barraba. We went far south on Longmore Road and turned north along Tarpoly Road.. On that journey we saw mount Hobden which nad been reported as a place for a Tanworth Rural Fire Service to work. We saw that it was still on fire with lots of smoke going up. We had a great trip back towards Barraba on the Tarpoly Road and eventually we reached Fossickers Way at the Tarpoly Cteek Bridge.. We had a very easy journey along Fossickers Way to Barraba. I was impressed that we saw several bush fires on hills south west of Barraba and at Mount Hobden far south of Barraba. Wonderful journeyFriday, 24th January 2014Rachel took me home from the hospital in Kelly's car and then she said that she wanted to look at the Manilla River. I arranged for her to take us to the park at the northern end of Fitzroy St so that we could walk down under the bridge and along the river. It looked like a creek because we have been in a bit of a drought and the recent rain had not filled the river. Later she said that she wanted to go to the Bundara Rd. We went along the Woodsreef Rd and then turned up the Bundara Rd. I said that I wanted to show her the sign about the wonderful bird the Regent Honeyeater which was importand in the forest there.because Jean and I had seen it when we drove up the Bundara Rd in the Terios when we had come to live in Barraba. After we saw the sign we had to go north to Gulf Creek Rd to get back to Barraba on some good roads. We went down the Macintyre Rd to get to Woodsreef Rd and then Rachel wanted to go down Barraba Station road to drive across the ford across the Manilla River from Stars Lane to William St. I was very pleased with the very far journey through the beautiful part of Australia in the old Barraba Shire and I thanked Rachel for her great effort.. New Year Family GatheringMonday, 20th January 2014We were very happy to have had our children who don't live in Barraba to come from Sydney in NSW, Brisbane in Qld, and San Francisco in California in USA to visit their mother Jean in Barraba Hospital. It was wonderful to have all our children here, one lives here in Barraba and the other three visited us and we were so impressed to have the gathering. We have gathered to have wonderful coffee in a marvelous cafe in Barraba at the Play House Hotel n Barraba and we have had other wonderful get togethers elsewhere including in the hospital. |
